Ivory Coast Suitcase
The Brevard Zoo creates Environmental Teaching (puppet) Suitcases for conservation projects around the globe. Since 2001 we have created over 50 suitcases which have been distributed to the following countries: Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria, Botswana, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Peru, Guatemala, Dominica, and the US.
Suitcases themes have included chimpanzee and gorilla habitat; elephant habitat; mangrove habitat; sea turtle nesting; rhino reintroduction and cheetah behavior and protection.
Each suitcase contains a a variety of animal puppets, maps, animals posters, matching animal card games, jigsaw puzzles, animal fieldguides, binoculars, ZooBook magazines, children's books, art supplies and a teacher's binder with educational information.
The suitcases are then used by educators to teach children in a fun interactive way about animals and their habitats. The children then create skits and plays to illustrate what they have learned. Please look at the photos and video clips we recieved from Club Pan in Ivory Coast, west Africa. This suitcase was generously fundde by 3 C's Nursery of Palm Bay. |
