The Brevard Zoo is taking action to help preserve our environment for present and future generations. By promoting conservation efforts in our own business practices, we are able to support the Green Team’s mission statement: “Inspiring our community to take action in natural resource conservation.”

A select group of zoo employees have taken on the responsibility of meeting monthly to ensure that the zoo continues to be a sustainable organization. This includes recycling of paper, plastic, aluminum, cardboard, batteries, phones, zoo maps, and using green products in our cleaning efforts. The zoo also believes in going beyond our property lines. We have a group of employees who participate in local beach and spoil island clean-ups. A tremendous amount of trash, much of it being hazardous, is picked up and disposed of properly before having the chance to get into our waterways.

Once a year Brevard Zoo hosts an event celebrating our planet. Vendors from the surrounding area are invited to set up booths and promote environmentally friendly practices. The goal of this event is to educate our visitors on how to provide a healthier environment for their communities.
The green team will continue to work hard to further our efforts here at the zoo as well as educate those in the community on how they can make a difference. Remember, we cannot change the past but we can work harder to change the future of our environment.
