What is the Limbe Wildlife Centre?
Limbe Wildlife Centre in the southwest region of Cameroon, West Africa is committed to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned wildlife. Founded in 1993 by the Pandrillus Foundation and the government of Cameroon, LWC plays an important role in local conservation efforts by being actively involved in the implementation of national wildlife protection laws, by providing a solution of where to place animals seized by law enforcement agencies and through their many education programs. LWC believes that by protecting and providing care for the wild animals of Cameroon, they provide one of the few opportunities for local people to see and learn about their own natural heritage which will inspire them to take steps to conserve it. Please see for more information on LWC: www.limbewildlifecentre.org

PASA is committed to the conservation and care of African primates through the unique alliance of African sanctuaries. PASA sanctuaries were created over the last three decades to accommodate the staggering numbers of orphaned chimpanzees, gorillas, bonobos and other endangered primates in Africa. Brevard Zoo’s Partners to Support LWC:
Brevard Zoo believes in actively supporting those organizations and individuals on the ground who addresses any number of conservation issues. Our focus has been to support projects that protect African Great Apes species (chimpanzees and gorillas) through field research, animal sanctuary support and education programs. A Brevard Zoo has created an Environmental Teaching Suitcase for LWC which contain animal puppets, books, posters, maps, games, puzzles and a Teacher’s guide.
Please see the response Brevard Zoo received after sending a suitcase to LWC in 2003 which the Education staff then used to create a game called The Forest Voice.
“I wish to thank the Brevard Zoo for the cheerful thought of sending animal puppets of various life forms as education tools. When we instituted The Forest Voice game, it was amazing to watch and listen to the students. At first some students were scared particularly of the python puppet, some would not wear the puppets appropriately on their hands and some could not synchronize the movement of the puppets as they spoke. In a very short time the students and after a short introduction about the use of the puppets created much fun and interaction. In fact, our Nature Club’s children now enjoy the Forest Voice game the most. During our school outreach the puppets created a lot of interest and curiosity. This resulted in an increase of applicant’s for the school environmental clubs. Thanks to an improved program and more activities with better material we registered an increase in member of over 15% compared to 2003. We would like to thank Brevard Zoo, the Ft...Hayes High School Interact Club and the Columbus Rotary Club for contributions to our education program with the Environmental Teaching Suitcase and the Arts; Crafts suitcase.”

Rotary Club Support
Suntree Rotary Club of Melbourne Florida generously donated $10,000 for the purchase and installation of a web camera at Limbe Wildlife Centre which we hope to have installed by late 2009. Live feed and tape from the web camera will be made available on the Brevard Zoo web site. In addition to the web camera part of those dollars will be used to purchase a computer and camera that will allow the Saturday Nature Clubs at LWC to talk with kids who are part of the Brevard Zoo Teen Volunteer Program. We are hoping that children here in Florida will learn about and appreciate different cultures around the world through this connection to children in Africa.
While waiting for the web camera to be installed, LWC has put together a YouTube segment, please see: http://www.youtube.com/user/limbewildlifecentre#play/all/uploads-all/0/dJQGA1Aksx4
USFWS Grant Awarded to Brevard Zoo
Recently the Brevard Zoo partnered with US Fish and Wildlife to create soccer uniforms for eighteen PASA member sanctuaries across Africa. In late 2008 Brevard Zoo applied for and received a US Fish; Wildlife Service conservation grant allowing us to develop 18 soccer team uniforms for each of the PASA member sanctuaries including Limbe Wildlife Centre. Please see below for the LWC’s soccer team artwork.
